Just now getting caught up on my many rss feeds. Josh commented on my mention of Donald Miller’s response to Haiti here. Josh points us to Al Mohler’s response titled “Does God hate Haiti.” I agree with Josh. Well worth the read. Dr. Mohler is the president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Here’s some meat from the post:
Does God hate Haiti? God hates sin, and will punish both individual sinners and nations. But that means that every individual and every nation will be found guilty when measured by the standard of God’s perfect righteousness. God does hate sin, but if God merely hated Haiti, there would be no missionaries there; there would be no aid streaming to the nation; there would be no rescue efforts — there would be no hope.
Good stuff. More good stuff here.
Our small group was talking about it yesterday. It is difficult to see the reasoning for things like this, but perhaps tragedy happens to wake up the Church to quit playing church and BE the Church.
There’s a nice Segue: What If The Church…
