It is interesting that I fired off a tweet last night about how stressful it is right now. There are a ton of projects that I have coming to completion in the next 30-60 days. Well, guess what I found out this morning?
April is National Stress Awareness Month… And April 16th is Stress Awareness Day! (And you thought the 16th was only your birthday, Jonathan… Happy Birthday by the way. I hope it isn’t too stressful for you)
The following is a post from Jan 9, 2009. I repeat it here for you and as a reminder for me as well.
Reading this tonight. Just at a time when I needed a reminder.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls…” (Matthew 11:28-29
Jesus knows. He knows what I’m going through. He’s been there. He dealt with it all. That reality hasn’t entirely hit me before.
First He tells us to come to Him. He knows that there are going to be times where we are just worn out. Note to self, go to Him.
Second, He tells us to Take His yoke. I admit, I had to look it up. I was pretty sure it was a tool used to help two animals (typically oxen) stay together and pull the same weight. Jesus, the master carpenter knows us better than anyone. He knows our strengths and weaknesses. He has “the” yoke that is designed for us. The same hands that flung the stars in space has hand-crafted a yoke for us. It is unique to us. No other person has the same yoke as me. Jesus has this perfect yoke hanging up ready for us to request it and put it to use.
Third, He tells us to learn from Him. He knows what it is like to juggle a dozen projects at once. He knows how if feels to blend personalities into one efficient team. He understands my frustrations, my stress, my struggles. He wants to teach us what He knows.
He wants us to have that rest. We need that rest so that we can strengthened for His work.
