I’m Thankful that God is a Consuming Fire

A few weeks ago I read this scripture during my daily quiet time. It has been churning in my head ever since.

For my name’s sake I defer my anger, for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off. Behold, I have refined you, but not like silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another. Isaiah 48:9-11

God doesn’t do something that is going to tarnish His name. We do things that tarnish His name. There will be those times where we don’t understand and can’t see what God’s plan is, but we must trust that the Lord has good purposes in causing or allowing them to happen. He will ultimately get the glory. He will not share it.

The furnace of affliction reminds me that God is a consuming fire. Again, the trials we go through are to refine us and are ultimately used for His name sake and His Glory.

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28-29.
