Summarizing the Bible a Tweet at a Time

I understand that a lot of you may not be on twitter. You don’t understand the benefits of it. You don’t get it. Well… I’m not really sure that I do either. At times I have felt that it is just too much noise coming at me and have had to shut it off. I only follow a few hundred people where some of my tweeps follow thousands upon thousands of other users.

Every once in a while, I come across someone who I think has great intentions for their twitter account and this has all appearances to be just that.

Chris Juby, a UK Worship director, has created an account and is planning on tweeting through the Bible for the next 2-3 years. One chapter at a time, he is going to summarize the chapter into 140 characters. That in itself is a pretty tall order.

Some folks will believe that this “project” that he is attempting will be a dumbing down and lowering in stature of the Bible.  Juby said he hopes his Twitter account will inspire his fellow Christians and others to read the Bible in its entirety. “My summaries are no substitute for the real thing,” he concluded.

You can read more about the account on mashable. Follow the account too, @biblesummary.

I will be interested in seeing how he summarizes some of the more “controversial” passages. I think that any attention that encourages people to read and study God’s True Word has value.

So, what do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?
