It was opening night of the Orange Conference, April 28th this year that I sat in the mid deck of the Gwinnett Arena watching Mark Batterson get interviewed by Reggie Joiner, that I sent out a tweet:
Which prompted the response from @justinpiercy:
Justin and I kicked around the idea, and on May 8th I sent this tweet:
Apparently my definition of “soon” is 100+days. Well, I am finally ready to follow through with it:
Wow. Where does the time go? It has been crazy the past few months. Looking back at my notes from Orange’s opening night, I have one big takeaway from the conversation between Reggie and Mark. Mark said, “We can stop doing ministry out of imagination and start doing ministry out of memory.”
In the past few months, I’ve been consuming A LOT of content around sound doctrine, statements of belief, confessions, creeds… It has been an interesting learning experience to see how the many organized churches and denominations have been formed. Now, I may not be employed in full time in ministry, but All Christians are called to full time ministry. I’ve been chewing on this for a couple months.
The premise of the book is that we’ve complicated Christianity, while Jesus simplified it.
So, with that said, I offer the group blogging project. The rules are simple.
- Get a copy of the book
- Agree to read the entire book.
- Write about one chapter that you will be assigned on a specific day that you will be assigned on your blog.
- Chime in on each other’s days. Discussion and comments are what make this work best.
- Tweet/facebook/promote the posts.
We’ll cover a chapter a day for 10 business days. We’ll do September 20-October 1. I already have a couple folks who’ve agreed to participate, but if we get more than 10, AWESOME, we can pair up on some chapters.
I’m going to post the names and chapters this Friday so that we all have enough time to get the book and read it first. If you’re interested, let me know in the comments below.
