Numbers 11

Oh how the people complain. Make your requests bold. Approach the throne of grace with confidence. Don’t murmur behind God’s back. He can’t be hidden from. He already knows it all anyway. And this request… is all about some meat. But of course the greater takeaway is that there are deeper issues. The people lack the faith to live in God’s providing. They are selfish. Forgive me Lord for when I am the same.

Mid 11 there is an interesting account of a man that runs up to Moses and Joshua  trying to stop two guys from prophesying. Joshua speaks up and tells Moses to stop them. I guess we see the maturity level at this point. Even though Joshua has been being groomed for future leadership under Moses and in the face of God at the Tent of the Meeting, here he tries to thwart God’s providing again. Moses simply answers:

“Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”

Finally there is the plague that comes from eating the quail. Further reminder that we should be happy with the provisions from God. He knows what we need and what we don’t.
