2 more days of the prophet Isaiah. I read somewhere that Isaiah could have been a prophet for more than 60 years. That’s a lot of vision that God gave him to give to the world at the time. There’s a lot in it for us too.
I’m reading the Bible through in 90 days. Join me. Click here for more information on the ESV Bible in 90 day plan that I am doing.
This is an amazing chapter in which God describes His Son. For much of the rest of the book of Isaiah, we will read so much about the messiah and the specifics of his coming.
Then God (through Isaiah) turns up the heat on his people. Israel is described as blind and can not hear. While the law was created to magnify the transgression that they had in their lives, they miss the grace and forgiveness and justification that comes in the savior.
And it is in chapter 43 that the Savior is further introduced. The prophecy says that there will be none like him. He will blot out transgressions for his sake and will not remember sins.
Why would God be so patient with Israel? They are His chosen. He chooses to do it. Even though God is ignored and idols are worshipped, he will wait upon and redeem Israel
Cyrus is a pagan king who God uses. He is his instrument. God can use anyone for His purposes.
Does the clay say to he who forms it, “What are you making?”
“Listen to me, you stubborn of heart, you who are far from righteousness; I bring near my righteousness; it is not far off. And my Salvation will not delay!
Those who trust in sorcery. “Evil shall fall upon you. No one shall save you.”
God is patient. He is refining Israel for HIS glory. He defers his anger. He restrains himself for us and them. Even though we profane his name, he will continue to call us. He spreads out his arms in wait for us.
Messiah is spoken in more detail here. Again, God will not forget his people.
Isaiah 50 – 51
Amazing visuals of the captive nation of Israel They cry out to God and he comforts them. He has put his word in their mouth and covered them in the shadow of his hand.
Isaiah 52 – 53
Awake! Awake! Salvation is coming! Know my name. Peace and happiness. And let me tell you how it will happen. My servant is coming. HE will be high and lifted up. Exalted, but He will be marred beyond recognition. He will also be despised and rejected by men. He will bear our griefs and sorrows. He will be wounded for our transgressions. Crushed for our iniquities. But this will bring us peace! By his pain and stripes, we’ll be healed. God has laid all our iniquities onto Him. It will satisfy the penalty.
He bears the sin of many and makes intercession for all us.
