Creating Things makes me Think: Part 1 – Introduction
I like to build things out of wood. I don’t get to do it enough. I like the creativity that it allows me to experience. I like the problem solving that it pulls out of me. I like the feel of accomplishment after I finish a project. I like the fact that each time I am in the middle of a project, it reminds me of how much I like doing it, and it also reminds me that God is a creator that enjoys the projects too.
Now, I am by no means a master carpenter. In all actuality, I have no idea what I’m doing. My end products tend to be more functional than perfect. Our first home entertainment center was pretty rough looking, but it functioned great. I’ve built a very creative Chess Board in the past, but when you really started examining it, you’d see all the flaws and mistakes. I’ve built some very functional shelves in the past, but they are not very fancy. In No way Do I claim that my woodworking projects come out like this. I just think this WALL-E made out of Wood is cool. I wish I could make this kinda stuff.
I’ve been working on a present for my soon to be 6 year old daughter. I could easily go and purchase the item that I am making, but I’d miss out on the fun that I am having now.
As I’ve been working on it, I’ve been thinking a lot about God the Creator. A few ideas came to mind that I’d like to share. This is going to end up being one of those multi-part blog posts. The Topics will include:
- God’s Work Plans
- God’s Raw Materials
- God’s Toolbox
- God’s Finishing Room
See you back here tomorrow.
